The connectors are mounted from the outside on the backplate. For a cleaner look I would suggest to install the connectors from the inside, so that it looks more embedded.
I have attached an Image to give a better impression of my thoughts 🙂

Yepp. This is the way the connectors are installed from version 2 on. Looks way cleaner, true 😉
